The Nature of the Human Mind - Concrete Poem

This concrete poem seeks to uncover the different layers of the human mind and how they intersect to contemplate about the infinite possibilities of the mind.

The Nature of the Human Mind - Concrete Poem

The uppermost part of the poem represents the conscious mind. This is the mind that you are employing to do almost everything that you are doing. Accounting for less than 2% of the whole mind, it is a thin film over the mind. The several thin lines represents several trains of thought- the complexity of our conscious minds.

The next section represents the subconscious mind. It is another 2-3% of the mind and where dreams take place. This part of the mind is responsible for the phenomenon of people ‘predicting’ or experiencing their future in their dreams: possible if you happen to touch/ have access to your subconscious mind when you dream. Time and space is the making of your conscious mind, once you enter your subconscious what is now is then, and what is then is now. Time and space will get mixed up. So I found an image of black and white lines now being 3D- to signify an alternate dimension where time and space no longer exist.

Last but not least, the remaining 95% of the mind is unconscious, it never comes into your access. However, it is the nature of the unconscious mind which determines the nature of your subconscious and conscious mind. The unconscious can include repressed feelings, thoughts, and hidden memories. Here, I used rope as rope is thick and strong, used to catch, fasten or secure things with- signifying the unconscious mind’s hold over the first 2 layers.

Additionally, if you go deep into your unconscious mind, there is something called collective unconsciousness. What this means is if you go deep enough into your mind, there is no such thing as your mind and my mind. There is only one mind. I used galaxy rope instead of normal rope to portray the fact that we are one with the galaxy.
